Team Description

Raceyard Kiel , the northernmost of the German Formula Student Teams, started to participate in Formula Student Events in 2006, when the Team made an impressive debut to the Hockenheim ring, winning the trophy for the best newcomer team and finishing 14th overall.

Motivated by that award, the team set out to build an even more competitive car in 2007. After participating in Formula Student events in Silverstone, Hockenheim and Fiorano in Italy, the team was the proud winner of yet another trophy for winning the acceleration event in Hockenheim.

After the 2007 season, and again motivated by the successes of the past, the team once more set the goal to improve the performance and scores at the events through an even more advanced and effective design. The competition at the event in Hockenheim was fierce and Raceyard managed to place 17th on that event in the 2008 season.

In 2009, Raceyard had to deal with a new situation since almost all of the seasoned and experienced members had graduated and left the university. A completely new team had to be formed, being the biggest in the history of Raceyard with 54 members. Due to the lack of experience though, the main goal for the 2009 vehicel was reliability over innovation. A strategy which seemed to pay off in the event in Silverstone, where the T-Kiel A09 could again win the acceleration trophy and finish 11th overall. In Hockenheim then, the team had to pay the bill for the lack of experience, finishing only 20th overall because of minor mistakes and insufficient preparation. But despite the unsatisfactory overall performance, the team was able to once more take home another acceleration trophy.

For 2010, most of the members of the previous team continued their commitment to Raceyard. The management has been professionalised, we have introduced a system for know-how documentation and the aims for the 2010 events in Formula Student are high. Having learned a lot in our 2009 season, our main goal is to get our footprint amongst the top 10 finishing teams at the events!
